2004 Bledsoe County -12/2004 - Owner who already had to sell their horses because of not caring for them now has more. 5 horses in bad shape. Blount County - 12/2004 -Owner lets guy use pasture. Not ample enough for the amount of horses he has put on it. Owner only comes every 3-4 days and throws some sweet feed on the ground. Only 1 small water container. Horses eating wood fence. Blount County - 12/2004 -No water or pasture. Only feeds hay once in a while. Jefferson County - 12/2004 - 3 skinny horses in a junk infested lot with nothing to eat but 3 year old hay. Campbell County -12/2004 - Loose horse unclaimed. Suffering from pink eye and no hair on its tail. Blount County -12/2004 - neighbors let guy use their pasture. Owner comes every so often and throws them some sweet feed. Horses eating the fence. Knox County - 12/2004 - Local carriage horses. Knox County - 12/2004 -Local boarding stable had horses standing in flooded pastures trying to eat. Claiborne County - 12/2004 - Horse had been seen tied to an abandoned house trailer for a few weeks. Horse was now down with swollen rear leg. It was entangled in rope/wire. Jefferson County - 12/2004 - 4 horses abandoned on property that owner has moved away from. Owner had been paying neighbor to feed but hadn't paid in 6 months. Property was being foreclosed on. Sevier County- Local riding stable using underweight horses with untreated saddle sores. Loudon County - 11/2004 - Horses with no shelter. Sevier County -10/2004 - Owner not feeding. Rutherford County - 10/2004 - More complaints in regards to state park riding stable. Skinny. No water, pond covered in scum. South Carolina - 10/2004 - Man asking for advice. His horses had been taken by a local rescue. Jefferson County - 9/2004 - Starving horses at local stable. Sevier County: 9/2004 - Young Jack kicked out of a horse trailer and left in the road. Very foundered and has a large head trauma. Neighbor has decided to keep and get the vet and farrier care it needs. Grainger County: 9/2004 - 3 horses very thin. Not being cared for. Wife know to be violent. Anderson County: 9/2004 - 5 horses that are very, very thin. Sevier County: 9/2004 - 3 horses on small, over grazed pasture. One horse is literally skin and bones. No shelter. Campbell County: 9/2004 - 2 Emaciated horses. Blount County: 8/2004 - Horse owner who has lost their driving privileges is observed riding their horse to local establishment, leaving horse tied for two hours and then riding it home in the dark. Local authorities called. Sevier County: 8/2004 - Out of town vacationer was very upset when they went to ride at a local riding stable. Horses being used that were very skinny with visible ribs and hip bones showing. No muscle mass. Many of the horses looked depressed. There was one small white horse, skinny with green-yellow pus coming out its nose being used to ride. They were told the horse had "strangles". The vacationers were horse owners themselves and made a point of disinfecting there shoes and clothes before going home. They were very upset that Tennessee allowed this type of thing to go on at riding stables in the area. Cocke County: 8/2004 - Local officials found horse needing a temporary placement. Grainger County: 8/2004 - Local horse trader selling horses with no coggins papers. Has over 50 head that come to him from all round the state. Says he doesn't need them because he is bringing them in from Illinois. (the proper state authorities have been contacted and they have spoken with this person and are monitoring) Cookeville: 8/2004 - Horse owner who had surrendered 5 horses a few years ago because they were not able to care for them properly, now has horses once again. Property still in disarray and they don't have much to eat besides weeds and overgrowth. Fencing has seen some repair though so hopefully they will stay in. This situation will be monitored. Anderson County: 8/2004 - Young colt stalled up with bad cut in leg. Cut swollen and infected from built up manure in his stall. Ear mites, feet have very bad case of thrush. Owner throws a bale of hay in stall each week. Owner feels horse is useless. Sevier County: 8/2004 - 17 + horses belonging to local riding stable not being cared for. Knee deep in mud. Being used with bad saddle sores and noticeable lameness. One Belgian foal in bad shape. Greene County: 8/2004 - Horses belonging to a county official are not being cared for. Very thin. No food. Two young foals have died in last month. Jefferson County: 7/2004 - 4 horses on less then acre. Nothing to eat. Neighbors are giving them cow hay. Sevier County: 7/2004 - Ponies locked in a barn with no food or water. Union County: 7/2004 - 2 malnourished horses. Sevier County: 7/2004 - Stallion keeps getting out. Goes to neighbors and bothers her horses. One mare got injured. Blount County: 7/2004 - Local horse trader keeps 70+ horses on different property in the county. Doesn't supplement feed. Was in court 8 years ago on neglect charges. At least 8 have died this past year. Sevier County: 7/2004 - local riding stable mistreating their horses. Yanking reins, sick horses being used. Horses knee deep in mud. Deep saddle sores. Feed them off the ground and throw their feed in the mud. Knox County: 7/2004 - Horse owned by a women in Florida and leased to another was removed from the state and brought to Tennessee. Owner started legal action in Florida to get horse returned. Roane County: 7/2004 - 5 horses, 1 mule, 1 pony. Very thin. No food or water. Blount County: 7/2004 -10 horses left in a field. All limping. Blount County: 7/2004 - 5 horses been neglected for years by their owners. Very skinny. Hardly ever feed or watered. Anderson County: 7/2004 - Animals in a small mud lot. No food or water. Hawkins County Update: 1/2004 - 13 horses stalled up in a barn for 2 years. No manure has been removed. Some may need to be shoveled out of their stalls. Most are wild and have had no handling. Abscesses on their feet. They are being fed. 30 Goats in a 12X12 stall, giving birth and getting trampled. Dead bodies are throw into a hole behind the barn. 7/2004 All stalls have been mucked and feet trimmed. All are receiving teeth floats. We will continue to monitor. Grainger County: 7/2004 - Starving horses Jefferson County: 6/2004 - 2 Horses living in a junk yard. Nothing to eat and very thin. Bledsoe County: 6/2004 - abuse and neglect witnessed at local state park riding stable. McMinn County: 6/2004 - Complaint of a skinny horse. Other horses are fine. The horse in question is 25 years of age. Hancock County: 5/2004 - Owners mule got out due to fencing damage after a storm. Neighbor shot and killed it. Said he was just trying to scare away from his hay field. Mules butt was blown off and there was a point blank shot to its head. Anderson County: 5/2004 - Horses being pastured on someone else property. Very thin, sores. Meigs County: 5/2004 - 2 Horses not being feed. Very thin. Hawkins County: 5/2004 - 6 very skinny horses. Wilson County: 5/2004 - Person went to a local riding stable to purchase a TWH for $2000. What they found was horrid. Every bone in his body was showing and his muscle mass had been depleted. Stable said they were selling the horse on consignment. Williamson County: 4/2004 - Problem with a horse at a local show. Owners known for their unscrupulous training methods and abusive handling. Show was stopped for two hours while the horses was buried on the sight. Coffee County: 4/2004 - 2 horses. 1 tied to a tree and the other tied to an old car. Been there over a year. DeKalb County: 4/2004 - 3 neglected horses taken in by local group. One very bad and thin and needs to be transported to UT. Needed someone to transport. Blount County: 4/2004 - Out of State boarder charged $750 for 13 days of board once horse came to Tennessee. Feels ripped off by boarding facility and moved horse. Campbell County: 4/2004 - Very thin horses. No food. Knox County: 4/2004 - Very thin and sick horse. Campbell County: 4/2004 - Horse tied to a pole. Every rib showing. No water. Blount County: 4/2004 - Owner had been leasing a horse as long as it was kept on the property. People moved the horses when owner not home. Heard horse was not being cared for. Union County: 4/2004 - Downed horse. Blount County: 3/2004 - Horse with a large knot on its knee and limping Bradley/McMinn County: 3/2004 - Owner sent their horse off for training. Horse came back sick and thin. When facility was closely inspected it was filthy and stalls had never been cleaned. Knox County: 3/2004 - 2 Horses with split and rotten hooves. Very thin. Union County: 3/2004 - Very skinny horse. Ribs and hipbones showing. Knox County: 3/2004 - Horses on a muddy hillside, dirt lot. No food Knox County: 3/2004 - 1 horse being neglected on 1/4 acre. Hawkins County: 3/2004 - Horses in 20X20 pen. No water in 3 days. Can see their ribs. Middle Tennessee: 3/2004 - 8 horses being boarded on property with no written contract. Has not paid board in 5 months. 2 pregnant and in bad condition. Owner has brought no food. ? County: 3/2004 - Caller didn't leave enough information. 6 horses involved. 1 freshly dead, 1 skeleton. Davidson County: 3/2004 - Spoke with concerned person at the Tennessee Horse Fair who let us know about horses living in bad conditions. Roane County: 2/2004 - 3 horses in a lot the size of a bathroom. Lot is on the side of a hill. Very thin. Can't lie down. No hay or food. Blount County: 2/2004 - 2 emaciated horses in a field filled with junk cars. Knox County: 2/2004 - 20 plus horses on only 10 acres. Outbreak of strangles. Some horses belong to boarders. Strangles came from horses bring purchased and traded at local auction house. Boarders worried about their horses welfare and are moving. One horse stuck in the mud because of muddy fields. Hawkins County: 1/2004 - 13 horses stalled up in a barn for 2 years. No manure has been removed. Some may need to be shoveled out of their stalls. Most are wild and have had no handling. Abscesses on their feet. They are being fed. 30 Goats in a 12X12 stall, giving birth and getting trampled. Dead bodies are throw into a hole behind the barn. Anderson County: 1/2004 - Horse in small lot with two loose strands of fencing to keep it in. House burnt a few weeks earlier and now horse is walking around in the rubble. Horse covered with ashes. Owners not living there. Owner was contacted and found out the round bale of hay he had for the horse had gotten burnt. HHT contact was able to get some new hay delivered and told owner if he wanted a temporary home for animal to give us a call. Knox County: 1/2004 - Small farm has turned into a boarding facility. Too many horses for the size of the small muddy lot. Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we try to help those who can not help themselves. Pray that or state laws will be changed to allow us the authority to pull a horse in need of help, without having to go through all the red tape. Pray that our local law enforcement will take our request seriously and try to intervene when needed. Please continue to help support us financially.
